I would recommend having a friend help you stretch.  One thing I do is lie on my back and extend one leg straight up.  Then I have a friend push against my leg while I push against her.  This causes resistance.  I push really hard for a few seconds, then relax, and my friend can push my leg further.  Continue this process and it will help lengthen your muscles.
PLEASE, be very careful when doing this so you do not over stretch yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can also stretch by yourself.    Here is a website that explains stretching in detail.  Hope this helps! : )
